Gustavo Arellano’s terrible, biased, very bad, spineless review of the Mayoral Debate.

Gustavo Arellano’s review of the Los Angeles Mayoral debate hosted by the Sherman Oaks Home Owners Association was journalism at its worst.

Arellano, once nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, trotted out racist tropes most save for the stink of a social media page where they find good company. Not an acclaimed Newspaper where RESIDENT Angelenos seek informed unbiased reporting on decisions of gravitas that will affect their lives.

I don’t know? Maybe they do it differently in Orange County?

Mayor Bass aptly called out Nithya Ramen for holding the second largest NO SHOW voting rate in City Council. The response Arellano heard from the audience was grown folk realizing that Nithya Ramen is a hypocrite who lacks political integrity.

Nithya Ramen pretends to be an outsider. She is not. She is a culpable part of the problem. As a City Council member Nithya Ramen helps facilitate the dysfunction in which Los Angeles approaches its residents, small business owners and every structural change that gets bogged down in bureaucratic bull crap. And when it’s time for her to show up and fight for the people whose tax dollars pay her salary, she’s conveniently in a meeting or at soccer practice.

I ‘Asked A Mexican’, well for clarity I asked my boyfriend since he just happens to be one, and he thought maybe Gustavo needs a refresher in Journalism 101: Actually taking the time to educate him self on the power structure of the Los Angeles City Council in which Ramen is a member. They retain power of land use, budget and public works. The very things she rallies against. Make it make sense!

Arellano’s article was mean spirited and seemed like a personal grievance. Reading it, I wondered what debate he attended? Was he triggered by a Black woman holding someone’s record to account? Do we all need to talk in a whisper to assure he feels safe? Perhaps Gustavo should take an emotional support dog to the next debate or just pretend Mayor Bass is a white male, then her forthright passion can be applauded in his next article.

Meanwhile grown folks will continue to CHECK THE RECORDS of who didn’t show up and who has. Who has relationships with Sacramento and can implement change and who does not. Who has used their power to make changes for tax paying voters and who was otherwise engaged because it was their turn to make brownies for Back to School Night.
